Martin Luther King Jr. fought for equal rights for black people. He led the Civil Rights movement in the United States. he was also a Baptist minister. He wanted voting rights and for segregation to end. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed in 1968. He was shot while standing on the balcony of his motel room.
Malcolm X
Malcolm X was an American Muslim minister. He was also a human rights activist. He believed segregation should be fought by any means even if that included violence. Malcolm X was also assassinated. He was assassinated on February 21, 1965.
Bus Boycots
During this time many boycotts were held. Bus boycotts were held to show that they wouldn't tolerate the segregation. The buses were separated by color. Black people stopped riding the buses during the boycott. This caused the bus companies to lose a lot of money.
